Mikheil Makharadze was born in Tbilisi, to a family of artists. In 1990, he graduates from Tbilisi Academy of Arts (Konstrantin Makharadze’s Studios). In 1997, he created designs for the ballet Charms of Mannerism, Choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, and Symphonic Dances, choreographed by G. Aleksidze, on the stage at Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Academy Theatre. Following this, he continued working with Alexei Ratmansky. In 1997-98 he was a designer of the following ballets: Dreams About Japan, Lea (Bolshoi Theatre), Kiss of Fairy with music by I. Stravinsky Middle Duet, and Poem of Ecstasy (Mariinsky Theatre) In 1999, Mr. Makharadze was costume designer on Balanhine’s Ballet Symphony In C, with music by G. Bizet, renewed for the Bolshoi Theatre by American Ballet, under ballet master John Taras. In 1999 Mr. Makharadze was awarded the foremost Russian Theatrical Award, the Golden Mask, for the ballet Dreams About Japan
